Hotel Suggestions

After our week at the Playa, we plan to take the bus to La Paz for a few days and then back to San Jose del Cabo for one night. We're looking for suggestions for inexpensive hotels, B&Bs or apartments that are close to town and have a bit of Mexican atmosphere. Any suggestions very appreciated.

Try PG's sister hotel, Quinta del Sol. You can access thru Expedia. It's on the main drag near City Club. We often stay there our first day in and then hurry over to PG early the next morning. Get's that travel day out of the way. It is an old Best Western that the PG people have renovated and run. There are mini kitchens and a small pool. Mostly local Mexican families and they have a free continental breakfast. About $100 a night. Very clean. They have a web site, but I've booked thru Expedia. We've stayed there twice and been pleased.

We have also stayed a couple times at Quinta del Sol and found it to be a good layover spot for extra days after or before Playa Grande. The developer of Playa Grande built the motel about 3 years ago. It's clean, new, safe and very well run. I believe that PG owners can get a 15% discount if reservations are made through Playa Grande.

In La Paz we would recommend Los Arcos. It is a great old hotel in the middle of the beautiful La Paz Malecon and is owned by Finisterra. Rates are in the $100 range and it is the perfect location for experiencing La Paz - walking distance from everywhere, good restaurant and also good service. Make reservations through their website.

Los Milagros in Cabo San Lucas was a great place to stay, 100-129. Really nice, quiet and close to PG.

In La Paz, we've stayed at Las Gaviotas. It's just across the street from the malecon, around the corner and up the street a bit from the Chinese Food restaurant on the corner. Dial An Exchange shows the property. Loved it. Pool is small, Sea of Cortez in front of you, great beach, Tecolote Beach, short drive. Grocery store walking distance. Soriana's near by. Quiet, ancient Mexican city. A must visit.
